Ragnarok

Ragnarok is the doom of the gods.
Ragnarok is the end of the world.

It is the final battle between the gods and the Jotuns (giants). The last battle will take place on the plains called Vigrid.

There are warning signs that Ragnarok is approaching.

The murder of Balder, son of Odin and Frigg, is the first indication of the upcoming Ragnarok.

Three succession hard winters that last three years with no summer between, is another warning that Ragnarok is emerging.

During these three years wars and evil will rule the world. People will suffer. These three continuous winters are called the Fimbulwinter.

Three roosters will crow; warning all in Asgard, the giants in Utgard and the dead in Hel to get ready for the final battle of Ragnarok.

The Midgard Serpent, Jormungand will squirm violently causing enormous waves to come crashing towards land. This will be his attempt to ascend the shores of land.

These waves will cause Naglfar to break lose. Naglfar is the ship made purely from the nails of dead humans. Naglfar belonged to the Jotuns and they will sail the Naglfar to the final battle.

For this reason it was very important for the Vikings to always cut the nails of corpses. If they forgot, the nails would contribute to the building of the feared Naglfar.

Heimdall will blow his horn long and loud warning all at Valhalla that the time has come. Odin will consult with the head of Mimir. All the dead Vikings living in Valhalla will ride with Odin and fight in their last battle.

Loki will break loose from the cliff he has been tied down to. Loki will lead the Jotuns against the gods of Asgard.

Skoll will swallow the Sun. The stars will disappear. The wolf Skoll will finally catch up with the Sun. Skoll will swallow the Sun.

Garm, the watchdog of the Underworld will come charging forth. The Frost Giants will attack arriving from the North.

Surt will arrive from the South followed by the Fire Demons.

Yggdrasil, the tree of life will groan and shake.

The Fenrir Wolf will break loose from his magical leash.

Odin will fight the Fenrir Wolf. Odin will lose his last battle. The Fenrir Wolf will swallow Odin. His destiny is to be killed by the wolf.

Vidar, the son of Odin will take vengeance on his father’s murderer. Vidar will kick the Fenrir wolf with a frightful force. He will kill the wolf. This is possible because Vidar had the strongest boots ever made from all the leather leftover scraps from the human world.

Tyr will fight the watchdog of the Underworld named Garm. They will end up killing each other.

Thor and the Midgard Serpent

Thor will fight the Midgard Serpent, Jormungand. Thor will kill the serpent. He will only be able to take nine steps after killing the Midgard serpent before he falls dead to the ground. The venom from the Midgard serpent will kill him.

Loki, who has turned completely against the gods, will fight Heimdall. They will kill each other.

The fire Giant named Surt will fight Freyr. Surt will kill Freyr. Freyr will not stand a chance as he will not have his sword. He had given his sword to his servant a long time ago.

Surt will set fire to the worlds. Asgard will become an inferno.

During Ragnarok gods, humans, dwarfs and giants will die.

A New World – A New Beginning

Fortunately the Sun managed to give birth to a daughter shortly before being devoured by the wolf Skoll. The earth will become beautiful and fertile. Plants will again grow.

Two sons of Thor will survive Ragnarok; Modi and Magni. They will inherit Mjolnir, the hammer.

Vidar, son of Odin will survive, as will his son Vali. Balder and Hod will return from Hel. They will all live in agreement with each other and together become the new ruling gods.

Honir will return to Asgard. He had lived with the Vanir gods ever since the last war of the gods between the Asgard gods and the Vanir gods.

Only two humans will survive Ragnarok. Their names are Lif and Lifthrasir. Some say they hid deep inside Yggdrasil, others say they hid in Hoddmimir’s Wood. Hoddmimir’s Wood could possibly be another name for the trunk of Yggdrasil. They will bear children.

There will be new life in every corner of the new world.
This will be the new beginning.
